Week Twenty-Two: The Great MKMMA Adventure – The Sounds of Silence

Long ago in a galaxy far away, Simon & Garfunkel released a beautiful ballad, The Sounds of Silence. The lyrics resonated with the generation out to change the world. I am a part of that generation, and was actively working to change the world then, as I am now.

The Sound Of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dare
Disturb the sound of silence

“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grow
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said “The words of the prophets
Are written on subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence”

As I reflect upon them now, five decades later, I recognize in them the Hero’s Journey. I see the traps, habits, patterns, and distractions that keep us from our life purpose and passion, and the sound of the Herald’s Call, beckoning those with ears to hear of the great adventure of their life. Without a Helper, a Wizard or Witch in the Woods who appears in the life of the Hero while on his journey, quicksand, bandits, and the snake pits of old habits of thinking, being, and doing successfully sidetrack the Hero. I was sidetracked for years, but I continually returned to the Quest.

As a Certified Guide in The Master Keys, I have had the honor of being a helper to 15 brave and courageous men and women. Our tribe started with 25, but the hazards of the journey took some of us. The transformation bursting forth in the lives of these heroes astounds me, and humbles me. One woman called me with ecstatic joy realizing that she finally met her heart, her true self, and because of this work, she is free. Another man has shed all that slowed him down from fulfilling his life dream and is moving, full steam ahead, into his purpose. All of those who stay the course return to their origins with treasures beyond price. Self-Discovery…it’s found in the Sounds of Silence, every day, for 15 minutes, doing the work of the mind, the heart, and the spirit. I bow to all who dare to hope, to dream, that they can change the world through changing themselves and their lives. You can, too, if you choose.

This is sometimes what a Hero’s Journey can look like:

The next Master Keys begins in September, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded. Get in line for yours by putting your name and email below. You’ll begin the powerful transformation process with the gift you receive for doing so…. 7 Days to Change Your Life.

Week Twenty: The Great MKMMA Adventure – Grist for the Mill

The Grist Mill

The Grist Mill

Gristmills…..  Most incorrectly imagine that wheat is simply poured into the mechanism of the mill and out comes flour! We don’t see the transformation process. We don’t see the reasons why wheat yields flour under the pressure of the millstones.

What is that unseen factor? It is actually the art of the Miller. It is he who has the knowledge, experience, and skill to separate the grains of wheat to yield flour. He knows how to work with grist, the grains of wheat separated from the outer shells and ready to be poured into the next sieve.

Looking at your life, what do you see that is grist for your journey? Is Fear grist? What about

The Tools of a Master Miller

The Tools of a Master Miller

Guilt? Or Unworthiness? Or Hurt Feelings? Or even Anger? How are these beneficial to you in accomplishing your goals and desires?

Each is a highly valued friend and ally, a tool to master in the toolbox of life. I didn’t always think this, but I’ve had the benefit of working with a Master Miller who knows exactly how to turn ‘chaff’ into food for the soul.

One night last March, I rounded a bend on a highway to see a stopped vehicle half-way in my lane and half-way in the lane to the left. There was no time to stop. Slowing down would not have saved me. I was awake, alert, aware, and totally focused. I was also scared. Hitting a stopped object at 65mph would not be pretty. I could die. If there was anyone in that stopped car, they could die. I was hyper-concentrated on my surroundings. I successfully maneuvered my vehicle, avoiding the stopped car without bleeding into the lane to my right, thereby not endangering the cars in that lane that were also traveling at high speeds.

Fear. Food for Life in that circumstance. What did I learn about fear that night? When I am afraid, I am super conscious, focused, aware, alert, and alive. I took appropriate action, and a ‘happy ending’ ensued. Can I take that experience, insight, and understanding to every situation wherein I find myself afraid? Definitely, but only if I am conscious of being fearful. Fear can be subtle, and when it is, it becomes a tool to keep me in patterns and habits that do not serve me, unless I identify it. Once named, I can take fear and put it to work to further my goals and interests.

Question: Can you think of a time when fear actually helped you? Please share those experiences in the comments below. I’ll be answering every comment.

Then please share this on your Facebook, Twitter, and Social Media accounts and let’s see how many ways fear can be Grist for the Mill of Your Success.

Week Eighteen: The Great MKMMA Adventure – Creating Your EPA

Church-5If you live in America, you either LOVE or HATE the EPA…the Environmental Protection Agency. If you are a land developer, chances are you are annoyed by them. If you are a contractor doing home improvements, chances are you truly hate them. If you are an organic farmer, you wish they’d be stricter so that your crops are not compromised by toxic pesticides. If you are a bee-keeper, the EPA is just a joke.

The Environment: It’s everyone’s responsibility…unless it is the environment of your mind. Then it’s YOUR responsibility. You see, wherever you have 100% freedom of choice, you have 100% responsibility.

What kind of fruit does your thinking produce?

This week, I embarked upon another 6 month Hero’s Journey: Higher Brain Living. At the end of Stay Hungry Stay Foolish6 months, my brain will have the same brain wave patterns as that of a monk who has meditated 8 hours a day for 30 years….in other words; I’ll be the master of my thinking, focus, and concentration on a whole new level. Higher Brain Living accomplishes much, but misses the piece of how to create the       vision of your future self into which you grow and manifest the life of your dreams. You get that in the Great MKMMA Adventure. Without it, the applied knowledge may somehow disappear into the ethers.

The people I meet at HBL have an edge on most of humanity in that they already THINK. They know they control their environment, and create their realities through their CHOICES. I had a wonderful conversation with one such woman, Margaret Ferguson. She is 70+ years young and vibrantly healthy and alive. Her husband of 50+ years had recently passed away and she and her daughter, my facilitator in Higher Brain Living, Anne Ferguson, laughingly shared about the experience of this man’s death.

Then she said it.

“I live each day as if it is my last. I’ve always done that.”

BAM!! So THAT is what living in the present in love and gratitude produces…this amazing fruit fruits-of-the-spiritof the Spirit expressed as light, love, peace, acceptance, and the gift of being fully present when with another. She’s 100% responsible for her Mental Environment, for her Thinking, for her life. I’m sending her a copy of The Greatest Salesman in the World. I think she’ll laugh out loud when she gets to Scroll V.

I invite you to become a master Environmentalist, MAKING ALL THE RULES of your personal EPA, applying the Seven Laws of Mind whenever a toxic thought pollutes your mind and setting yourself up for a lifetime of riches with the 7-Day Mental Diet. It’s yours as my gift! All you need do is leave your name and email below and I’ll send it right over. AND, you’ll be in the queue for one of the Pay-It-Forward Scholarships for the Great MKMMA Adventure. It starts in September.

Week Seventeen: The Great MKMMA Adventure – Chickens and Eggs: Man’s Search for Meaning

rosie-chicken-and-eggsmallWhich came first? The Chicken or the Egg?

Probably the first existential question asked of us.

Chickens come from eggs, so the egg had to come first. BUT, Eggs come from chickens, so the chicken had to come first.  But………

When I move into my new house, I’ll be happy!

When I get a big raise, I’ll be happy!

When I buy my dream car, I’ll be happy!

Does that mean that the house, the money, and/or the car CAUSE me to be happy? For some, the answer is yes, and for those people, happiness is easily stolen from them.  How do we internalize happiness, peace, and harmony such that they become who we are?

Happiness, peace, and harmony are the fruit of right thinking, for As a Man Thinketh, so he is.

Happiness, peace, and harmony are always options for us to choose, regardless of external Find-Beauty-Card_PinWheelDesigns_Etsycircumstances. Once you own this and make it part and parcel of who you are, you are invincible. Setbacks, obstacles, life’s challenges and hardships, even the loss of someone you love, have no power to harm you, for you possess and use the freedom to choose, everything.

Dr. Viktor Frankl, a Jewish psychiatrist in Hitler’s Germany in the 1930s was imprisoned in Auschwitz. He developed a definite purpose, that he would live through this nightmare of death and destruction, no matter what, so that the story could be told. From early 1942 until late 1944, transport trains delivered Jews to the camp’s gas chambers from all over German-occupied Europe. At least 1.1 million Jews, Poles, Romani an Sinti, Soviet POWs, Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, and young Germans who disagreed with Hitler died at Auschwitz in the gas chambers. Countless others not killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.

What would be your chosen response in the face of all of that?  This was Dr. Frankl’s”

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

Viktor Frankl mastered his thinking, and lived. He understood the power of thought as cause, and of all else as effect. He saw in himself and in the guards the human potential, maintaining the vision of what is possible, and thereby freeing what is best to come forth.

Thought as cause. Authentic Strength. Authentic Power. Authentic Living.

Week 11: The Great MKMMA Adventure – Advent Revisited

Advent: A Season of Expectant Waiting and Preparation

Advent: A Season of Expectant Waiting and Preparation

Advent is my favorite season in the Liturgical Calendar. It is the Church’s New Year SEASON. It is a celebration of New Beginnings. It is the Commencement of a season of Expectant Waiting and Preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus, the coming into the physical of the Divine, the Breath of God breathed into all creation once again.

Advent. I love it. A season of Joyful Communion with All that Is. Expectant Waiting and Preparation.

Sounds like the instructions of our exercise in Part Eleven of Haanel’s The Master Keys. 11.34: For your exercise this week, concentrate on the quotation taken from the Bible, “Whatsoever things ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.” Notice that there is no limitation. “Whatsoever things’ is very definite and implies that the only limitation which is placed upon us is in our ability to think, to be equal to the occasion, to rise to the emergency, to remember that Faith is not a shadow but a substance, ‘the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Every day, we read the statement of our Definite Major Purpose [DMP] with ENTHUSIASM! We Bruce Lee DMPlook at shapes posted around our home which represent aspects of our DMP, connect our heart to them, and say out loud with enthusiasm that which it means to us. We read the Law of Giving aloud, with Enthusiasm. We ponder these things in our heart and riotously, joyously, exuberantly prepare our minds….expectant waiting

The DMP is the “Whatsoever”. The Enthusiasm and feelings we imbue into the reading of it combine with our thoughts, causing the growth of new neuro-pathways, creating a new belief within us. The Beliefs generate our actions which assure that our DMP is that which we ‘shall have.’

The OLD BLUE PRINT: Our Self-Imposed & Self-Created Limitations

And what are those self-imposed limitations of which Haanel speaks? Nothing less than that sly dog, the Old Blue Print! Years, perhaps decades of thought patterns which do not serve us do not die quickly or easily. This truly is Spiritual Warfare. The Dragons we face on our Hero’s Journey are the Dragons we create with our thinking. Only when we take ownership as The Watchman at the Gate of our mind do we empower, breathe life, into that which we create. We master the 7 Laws of Mind. We master the mechanism.

Advent! What a wonderful season. Week 11. What a wonderful time to reflect upon how far into our Hero’s Journey we have come, to jubilantly celebrate breakthroughs, the coming into the world of that which we envision, the unexpected surprises that burst into our lives which propel us into our futures. Advent. A time of Expectant Waiting and Preparation.  Aaahhhh.  Advent. I do believe I love it all the more.
