Week Twenty-One: The Great MKMMA Adventure – The Power to Name

Michaelangelo The Creation of Adam“Let us make man in our Image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the foul of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Gen 1:26

“And out of the ground, the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every foul of the air, and brought them unto Adam, to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the foul of the air, and to every beast of the field.” Gen 1:19-20a.

What’s in a name? Biblically, the name represents the nature, the spirit, the character, the Adam-naming-animals-by-Theophanes-at-Meteoracharacteristics, and the essence, in every way, of the thing. In giving man the power and authority to name ‘every beast of the field’, God gave the authority to define the very essence and meaning of that thing. This is one of two specific ways which man is made in the image of God.

Haanel echoes this. “The spirit of the thing is that thing….It becomes active through your recognition of it and its possibilities.”  The Master Keys, 20.1

The other is free will… the freedom to choose a course of action, a thought.

In The Master Keys, we master the Power to Name.

For example, biochemically, fear and excitement generate the same response in the body. We have the opportunity to express our two divine rights: the freedom to choose and the freedom to name. My life experience arises from my living into being made in the Image of God. I choose to name that response excitement, and my life is a grand adventure. I choose to name that response fear, and my life is a reactionary nightmare. That’s the Power to Name.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;’  John 17:22

heart-in-hand-of-godAgain, Haanel follows Biblical truths. “The real secret of power is consciousness of power.” 21.1 “…the more conscious we become of our unity with the sources of all power, the greater will be our power to control and master every condition.” 21.5

We cannot claim our inheritance if we are unconscious of its existence. Even if we are conscious of our oneness with God, we cannot sow the seeds of that life unless we name it and claim it. If we do, we reap a bountiful harvest.

Question: What kinds of things exist in your life that you can transform by exercising your Power to Name? How would your life be different?

Love this Cassandra. The power to name! I had been considering it “labels” which although very similar does not ring as well as naming! Gracias for your continued wisdom!

Yes, I must agree with Carolyn’s thoughts regarding “labeling” vs “naming.” The latter does have a more positive ring. For me, this is part of a Bible study I never had. I had no idea that Adam and Noah had a tag team going. First Adam named them, and then Noah saved them. Regarding excitement, I believe it’s Lesson 22, where Haanel associates joy, faith, hope, and love. I love the HEART IN THE HAND OF GOD both for its aesthetical merit and its connotation. Although just a typo, “The real secret of power if consciousness of power.” is something you would have corrected had you noticed it. It reminds of the “how many ‘f’s do you see” exercise. Your post, Cass, points out how our choice of names can help us wield the power contained in the Laws of Substitution and Dual Thought. Who would have thought it would also suggest a single letter has some stealthy, transformative power all by its lonesome. On second thought, was your typo intentional? :)
